Health Care Tips for Virtual Assistants

During the past year, we have all witnessed how the majority of people have begun to permanently work remotely. Whether it’s your personal choice or your company’s decision, we have all learned to adapt to the changes that these uncertain times bring. Freelancers such as Virtual Assistants, can also experience situations that might take a toll on their health. Although working from home gives us control over our time and productivity, it can sometimes bring the feeling of being burnt out, stressed, and having a lack of motivation. When this happens, what really is the best way to practice self-care and focus on something other than work for once?

A lot of people are natural workaholics, which leads to them putting their overall health at the bottom of their priority list. Sometimes all the deadlines, online meetings, and tasks are inevitably given more importance. We must learn how to ‘switch off’ from work and create boundaries between our career and our personal life. Here are our tips on how to remain healthy and sane while still being a rockstar VA:

Keep a Balanced Diet

Most VA’s work during odd hours, which can mean being awake at night until early in the morning. The amount of workload and tasks may affect our appetite, causing us to take our food intake for granted. While it’s very satisfying to give in to our cravings, we should never do it excessively. Stick with healthy options, such as crunchy fruits and vegetables for snacks! Don’t forget to take your vitamins, and have a glass of water readily available next to you so you can replenish anytime.

Move Your Body

Not all of us have a spacious working area at home, but find a way to move around and do some stretches during your break. Sitting in front of a laptop for hours can be damaging to our health, so make sure you get up and move from time to time. A 3-minute workout can do wonders to your body! Make it a daily habit to insert a quick exercise in your routine. Your body will absolutely thank you for it!

Write Things Down

While it’s very easy to rely on our phones to set reminders, going to old-school route of taking down notes is incomparable. Jerremy Newsome, CEO of Real Life Trading, suggests to always write things down with pen & paper. He states that it takes your mental frequency and turns it into physical, making everything you write a part of you. When you practice journaling, or something as simple as writing a to-do list for the day, it encourages you to accomplish your goals. This also increases your productivity and boosts your performance.

Always Ask For Help

Remember, we’re all human. When things feel too much, always remember to take a breath and assess the situation. Never hesitate to ask for help from one of your team members when it gets too overwhelming for you. No one is ever too busy to lend a helping hand! As a VA, our clients may assign particular tasks or projects that we find challenging to do. There’s no shame in admitting that you can’t do everything! Instead, focus on what you can do and where you can improve on.

Stay connected while being offline

As our communities have slowly allowed re-openings of public places, you now have the option to go out and take a break. Reunite with your friends and families to get that long overdue social recharge. Technology does make life easier, but we now have the ability to see the world in a new light. What do we mean by staying connected while being offline? Simply put, take this chance to re-connect to the real world and experiencing it anew. Keep challenging yourself to setting stronger boundaries between work and personal life and actually sticking to it!

While we work at a very fast-paced environment in a pandemic, let’s not forget to put health as our number one priority. Our work meetings and task deadlines can be rescheduled, but when it comes to our health, it should never be compromised. You can’t work on any empty tank! Do what you can to recharge your social batteries and always find new ways to keep the fire burning within you.
